OUR STORY
Eastern Counties Leather, has been crafting and tanning quality leather and sheepskin products since 1879, right in the heart of Sawston, Cambridgeshire.
A company steeped in history, and founded on strong values.
Eastern Counties Leather began in 1879 as a bold response to the harsh labour practices at T H Evans tannery. Evans, owner of the Thomas Evans Works (later Hutchings & Harding), held sway over the village for decades; owning pubs, dictating where workers spent their wages, or only paying them in beer and dismissing employees on a whim.
In contrast, Eastern Counties was established as a rival tannery by local clergy and businessmen with a mission to offer fairer, more stable employment.

Alongside T H Evans’ operations and Sawston’s paper mill, our tannery contributed to the village’s unique industrial character, setting it apart from other villages.
Our iconic brick chimney, once dominated our site and was a familiar towering landmark to local residents: a symbol of industrial pride and local heritage. Though the chimney was demolished in recent years, the legacy lives on in the icon of our company logo.

How much is delivery?

How will I receive my order?
We use DPD and Fedex to courier your orders. Dependent on the volume of your order this may depend on which courier you use. If you do have a preference please let us know and this can be taken into consideration.
Occasionally some items may be sent using Royal Mail for smaller orders.
Is there a minimum order?
We don't have a minimum order commitment. We prefer our customers to be able to order what they need, when they need. Our slippers, coats, gloves and majority our our products are sold individually meaning you don't have to commit to take a size pack when you just need to top up. So no minimum qty and no minimum spend (unless you want to make it carriage paid)
A couple of our lines are sold as a pack but these are marked and priced to show this.
Do you offer credit?
All customers start on a pro forma basis. For regular, long term customers please get in touch regarding a credit account.
Where are the skins sourced?
We are part of an international leather processing group and our skin usage can vary dependent on what is needed for a specific product. We produce a variety of different products that involve different skin qualities. Our skins are always a byproduct on the meat industry. If you would like to know more about the skin origin of our products its best to contact us to discuss the particular product interest.
Can I get samples?
We are happy for you to select a couple of samples to test the products. These are chargable but please feel free to contact us to discuss any lines or productions you'd be interested in running.
Where is my order?
We aim to dispatch all orders within 1-2 business day of the order being placed. Once your order has been despatched you should receive tracking updates via mobile or email. Please ensure you have provided us with an up to date mobile or email to receive this.
Please allow up to your estimated delivery date for your order to arrive. If this date has passed and you still haven’t received your order, contact us straight away and we will be happy to help.
Please note in peak season delivery times may be slightly longer.
I'm missing items from my order
Apologies if you are missing an item from your order. please contact the sales office on sales@ecleather.co.uk or 01225 865317

We do not exchange or refund items unless they are faulty. If there is a problem with an item we will ask you to send it back to us and exchange or refund where necessary.
Do you have images I can use?
Yes! We have a Dropbox folder of images. Please ask us for the link.
Do I have to forward order for the season?
Generally not. We try to have what we call an in-stock service where we hold good levels of our footwear, gloves and accessories throughout the peak season. We feel this helps you to buy what you need, when you need, without committing to a heavy stock holding.
Towards the end of the season we may have more limited availability on some sizes dependent on demand.
If you are interested in large bulk volume, it is advisable to forward order for us to ensure we can fulfil your order requirements in our production.
For our coats, we would advise a forward order for the season to ensure we can guarantee availability.
Where can I see the full range?
We don't currently have a show room. However we have a couple of ways to see the full collection
- via our trade website
- Ask for a copy of our full digital brochure

How can I clean my sheepskin?
Sheepskin and leather are very delicate and don't always tolerate harsh cleaning. For our larger items like coats and rugs we would recommend seeking professional Dry Cleaning advice from a leather specialist dry cleaner. We would always advise using a Siloxane Green Earth Dry Cleaning Method. Unfortunately we can never guarantee how every skin
will handle intensive cleaning processes.
SHEEPSKIN RUG CARE
To keep your sheepskin looking its best we advise that
you brush regularly to remove dust and dirt particles.
It is advisable to display your sheepskin away from direct
light sources. Direct sunlight exposure will compromise
the tanning and dying process of the rug, causing colour
changes and also reducing natural oils within the skin
that keep the rug supple.
For stains, you should spot clean using a damp cloth and
‘wool safe’ cleaner. For more intensive cleaning seek professional dry cleaning.
ACCESSORIES CARE
We would advise spot cleaning any of our accessories with a clean damp cloth and suede/wool/leather safe product dependent on the product composition. Always take care not to over saturate the skins and allow to dry naturally away from any direct light or heat source. Brushing through any wool or sheepskin fibres to restore fluffiness. A suede brush or our leather cleaning blocks can restore and clean the suede fibres.
If more in depth care advise is needed please don't hesitate to contact us.
